Alumni Weekend has become the premier Canisius event attracting more than 850 people back to campus in 2004.  This year’s projected attendance is more than 1,000, with nearly 600 alumni already planning to attend.  Even if you are not celebrating a milestone reunion, there are activities for all Canisius alumni, family and friends.

This year, Canisius alumni will come from all over the country to reconnect with classmates, friends and the campus itself.  New buildings and renovations mark the growing campus – including the nearly-complete Eastwood Residence Hall situated adjacent to Bosch Hall facing the Main Quadrangle.  With events in the Quad, Old Main, the Demske Sports Complex and campus tours, Alumni Weekend’s venues will enable alumni to experience the campus firsthand – guests are even invited to reside on-campus for the weekend in the Village Townhouses.

In addition to milestone class years celebrating their reunions, the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) will commemorate more than 50 years at Canisius College.  Saturday’s ROTC Grand Reunion at the Montante Cultural Center is the first major gathering of the program’s alumni since it was founded in 1951.

Friday night’s tent party in the Quad is open to everyone.  This is the chance for all alumni to gather on-campus for an evening of live music, great food and dancing.  Local cover band The Boys of Summer will set the stage for dancing, and the Hollywood-themed Quad will be decorated with giant Oscars and life-sized images of entertainment’s most popular celebrities.

Father Cooke will meet guests for coffee on Saturday morning to provide an update on the state of the college, followed by campus tours, faculty and alumni lectures, and a family picnic and alumni softball game at Demske Sports Complex.  Alumni Weekend will commence on Saturday evening with an alumni liturgy and individual class reunions at various locations around the city.

For a full schedule of events and list of who's planning to attend, visit Alumni Weekend 2005’s Web site (www.canisius.edu/alumniweekend).  Click here to go directly to the registration Web site.

Class of 1955 Tops Reunion Gift Challenge; Class of 2000 Participation Up Six Times from 2004
Nearly 1,000 reunion-year alumni have committed nearly $300,000 in donations to Canisius College’s Reunion Gift Challenge – and there’s still a month to go.  As alumni and students continue calling and making contact with fellow graduates, gifts continue to roll in.  The celebrated Class of 1955 reached $226,000 in April; eighty-eight percent of their goal of $255,000.  The Class of 2000 already increased class participation in the Annual Fund by six times that of last year; from 16 in 2004 to 107 in 2005.  They are 18 shy of their participation goal of 125, or 20 percent of the class.  The Class of 1970 is second to the Class of 1955 in total dollars raised with more than $51,000 as of April 28.

This year’s reunion classes are doing a great job in raising money for this year’s Annual Fund.  The money raised will support Canisius scholarships, supplies and operations that are vital to the continued growth and success of the college.  There is still a month to give.  Support Canisius today – click here to view a special message from the college.
